Goals and Initiatives

AZ1. Attract, recruit and retain learners and faculty to meet the needs of the Arizona communities we serve.

  • AZ1a. Enhance K-16+ pathway programs for students from communities in need of physicians. 
  • AZ1b. Increase the type and number of positions in the College’s educational programs.
  • AZ1c. Enhance the learner, staff and faculty experience to promote recruitment and retention.
  • AZ1d. Enhance collaboration between UME, GME and departments in tracking outcomes to augment educational effectiveness and promote long-term physician retention.

AZ2. Align and foster the transition between undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME) and practice physicians to promote Arizona as a familiar and desirable location to practice. 

  • AZ2a. Develop direct linkages between rural, tribal and underserved clerkships and primary care residencies to match learner experiences with future practice.
  • AZ2b. Connect learners with faculty to foster research initiatives and commitment to academic medicine.
  • AZ2c. Enhance UME and GME career development programs focused on advising, mentoring and competency development.
  • AZ2d. Promote a culture of professional excellence and thriving throughout the training and careers of physicians through ongoing evaluation of learning experiences, mental health support and enhancement of resiliency skills.

AZ3. Improve the health of Arizonans through education, service and research that is responsive to community priorities. 

  • AZ3a. Identify and coordinate strategic community engagement priorities with medical learners, faculty and community partners.
  • AZ3b. Align service-learning programs with strategic community engagement priorities.
