The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix began sponsoring the residency and fellowship programs formerly sponsored by Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix in 2015. With more than 350 residents and fellows in our programs, Banner – University Medical Center has been training residents and students for over 60 years.

In 2023, we began a significant expansion of our programs to meet the needs of the community. We will add 16 new programs and 229 new positions by the year 2030.

"Combining the clinical expertise of the Banner Health physicians with the extensive knowledge related to accreditation and faculty development from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, we are well positioned to provide high-quality graduate medical education programs," said Cheryl O'Malley, MD, vice dean of Graduate Medical Education.

All eligible programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which provides assurance that a program meets the quality standards (Institutional and Program Requirements) of the specialty or subspecialty practice(s) for which it prepares its graduates.

Our programs are nationally recognized for leadership in clinical excellence, scholarly activity, teaching and innovation.
