The Division of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive care for infectious diseases in the heart of the Southwestern U.S., educates the next generation of experts and conducts clinical research to advance the field.
Our vision is to become the most comprehensive academic infectious diseases (ID) program in the Southwest — providing outstanding care in conjunction with our clinical partners for both hospitalized and ambulatory patients and serving Arizonans in all things infectious, from prevention to cure.
The division started in 2024 and is excited to partner with the Maricopa County Health Department, as well as the Arizona State Health Department; and the division has begun collaborating with colleagues from Mayo Clinic, the Phoenix Veteran Affairs Hospital, and Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.
Medical students and residents are invited to rotate with us. The division accepts learners from outside the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. The division is currently in the preparation phase for starting an ID fellowship program, which is slated for 2026.
The division offers consultation service for inpatients with a new service line for transplant infections. In the ID clinic, we see patients with a variety of infections, including Valley Fever, HIV and STD. Ongoing research activities include Valley Fever, antimicrobial stewardship and multidrug-resistant organisms, among others.
