It is the policy of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix to permit medical students to perform sensitive physical examinations (breast, genitalia, and rectum) only with the consent of the patient and in the presence of a qualified healthcare professional (e.g., resident, advanced practice provider, physician, gynecologic teaching assistant). Medical students should decline to participate if they do not feel comfortable with the circumstances of the examination.
