It is the policy of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix (COM – P) to utilize residents in the training of medical students, and to provide feedback and instruction to residents in the area of teaching. Additionally, when graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are utilized to train medical students, COM - P ensures that these educators receive feedback on teaching.

Training of residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in teaching and assessment is offered through COM – P in coordination with their respective residency programs, affiliated institutions and department(s). All educators receive a copy of the educational learning objectives, policies and methods of assessment for the curricular unit in which they teach. Receipt of this information is monitored centrally by the College of Medicine – Phoenix.

The process by which residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows receive feedback and referrals for additional instructional development and support is described in detail in the Assessment and Evaluation of Student, Faculty and Curriculum Policy.

*Advanced learners are defined as non-faculty, non-undergraduate medical students who instruct, or assess undergraduate medical students.
