Mission Statement
Our mission is to train the next generation of pulmonary critical care specialists to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with a wide range of respiratory diseases. We strive to create a learning environment that fosters innovation, collaboration and the pursuit of excellence.
As a program, we are committed to being at the forefront of cutting-edge research that will lead to new discoveries and improve patient outcomes. We seek to develop a deep understanding of the complex mechanisms underlying respiratory diseases and to translate this knowledge into new therapies and treatments.
We recognize the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in our program and intentionally center these principles as core values within our culture. We strive to create an inclusive environment that values and respects individuals from all backgrounds. We believe that diversity in our trainees, faculty and staff strengthens our program and leads to better outcomes for our patients.
Overall, our mission is to train exceptionally pulmonary critical care physicians who are excited about the important work they do and are acutely aware of their responsibility in advancing the field through research and promoting diversity.
Diversity Statement
As a training institution of the next generation of physician leaders, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community of trainees, faculty and staff. We recognize that diversity and inclusion are essential to achieving excellence in patient care, research and education.
We are committed to our responsibility in rectifying the historical and current systems of bias within medicine. We make an intentional effort in recruiting and retaining individuals from historically excluded groups in medicine. We believe that a diverse group of trainees, faculty and staff brings unique perspectives and experiences that enhance the quality of our program and the quality of care we provide to our patients.
We strive to foster a sense of community within our program that encourages our trainees to be leaders in social justice. We recognize the importance of giving back to the patients we serve and endeavor our trainees to participate in civic service and outreach activities.
