Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix
Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix has served as a leader in health care in the Southwest since 1911. It is part of Banner Health, the largest medical system in Arizona, with hospitals across the state and the Western United States.
Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix is an academic medical center with more than 300 residents and fellows in all the major specialties and an enthusiastic and experienced hospital-based faculty. All of the Graduate Medical Education Programs are University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix programs.
Our 60-acre campus includes state-of-the-art diagnostic, emergency and support services. The Health Sciences Library houses an impressive computer laboratory and ready access to essentially all medical journals, textbooks and online resources. There is also a separate library within our Psychiatry Department with major textbooks, journals and computerized educational resources.
The clinical Psychiatry programs at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix include 22 adult inpatient beds and an outpatient clinic with offices for each resident near our full-time faculty. Our active Consultation-Liaison and Emergency Psychiatric Service allows routine interaction with non-psychiatric colleagues throughout the medical center.
Our Psychiatry residents are exposed to a mixture of public and privately insured patients with diverse economic and socio-cultural backgrounds and every type of psychiatric illness, level of acuity and age.
Our Psychiatry Residency program also offers required and elective experiences at other well-supervised, nearby clinical sites, including the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Phoenix Children's Hospital, a community mental health clinic, Arizona State University and outreach to rural areas.
The nonprofit Banner Health System's network of Arizona hospitals and behavioral health centers offers many attractive options for those considering career opportunities in Arizona upon graduation.
Additional Training Sites Include:
- Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center.
- Arizona State University (Tempe).
- Phoenix Children's Hospital.
- Southwest Network, Inc.
- Banner Behavioral Health Hospital (Scottsdale).
- Banner Alzheimer's Institute.
